Main door and moulded interior doors, The Springs

The brief

The owner was rebuilding a Springs villa and wanted one maker for every door: a statement main door in a dark timber, classic moulded interior doors in white, and strong teak doors for the garden that would stand up to the weather.

What we made

The main door is a pair of leaves in walnut veneer with horizontal grooves, under a glazed fanlight in a matching frame, drawn to the opening and approved on a dimensioned drawing. Finish samples were made so the owner could choose the exact tone of the walnut, and each leaf hangs on five concealed hinges rated for its weight. Inside, the interior doors are white PU painted leaves with applied panel moulding, the moulding set out on each leaf in production so the panels line through from door to door, hung on four hinges per door in matching frames. The garden doors are solid teak, built to take the sun and the irrigation, with provision for the owner's locks.

Why it works

Doing every door in the house as one schedule meant one drawing set, one finish sign off and one installation sequence, and a house where the main door, the interior doors and the garden doors read as a family. The walnut and the white moulded doors give the villa a classic Springs character with a sharper finish than the originals.
