Mahogany eight panel main door, The Springs

The brief

The original door had faded and the owner wanted a new door in the same classic style, in a richer timber, without going through a change of design with the community.

What we made

An eight panel door in mahogany, with raised panels and applied mouldings cut cleanly through the stiles and rails, in a high gloss lacquer that brings the grain up. The frame and architraves are made in the same mahogany with a stepped profile, hung on solid brass hinges with a chrome lever and a mortice lock. Filmed close after installation so the panel edges, the frame profile and the hinges can be seen as fitted.

Why it works

The Springs villas share a panelled timber door, and keeping the style meant the replacement stayed as maintenance rather than a design change. The depth of the raised panels and the gloss finish are what lift it above the original.
