Sliding doors

Concealed track sliding doors

A concealed track sliding door hides its track in the ceiling, a bulkhead or a timber pelmet, so the leaf appears to glide across the opening with no visible hardware. We make bespoke concealed sliding doors for Dubai homes in veneer and lacquer, with soft close dampers.

How the track is hidden

The track is either recessed into the ceiling before it is finished, or fixed behind a pelmet that we make in the same finish as the door. A floor guide keeps the leaf steady without a bottom track. Because the ceiling detail has to be planned, concealed tracks are easiest to include during a renovation or fit out.

How a concealed track sliding door works

The leaf hangs from two carriages that run inside an aluminium track fixed above the opening. On a concealed system the track is either recessed into the ceiling before the ceiling is finished, or hidden behind a timber pelmet made in the same finish as the door. A floor guide, a small pin or a recessed channel at the foot of the opening, keeps the leaf from swinging; there is no bottom track to catch dust or feet. Soft close and soft open dampers are fitted inside the track, so the leaf slows itself before it meets the stop at either end. The result is a door that appears to float across the wall with nothing visible but the leaf and the pull.

Planning the ceiling detail

A recessed track needs a slot in the ceiling the full length of the leaf travel, which is twice the door width, so this is easiest to include when the ceiling is being built or replaced. The slot is lined and finished so that only a dark shadow line shows. Where the ceiling is finished and cannot be opened, the pelmet version gives the same look: a timber box around 90 to 120 mm deep that runs the length of the travel and is finished to match the door, with the track inside it.

Leaf sizes and weights

Concealed systems carry a single leaf from a standard door width up to very wide and full height leaves, provided the track and carriages are rated for the weight. A full height veneered leaf is heavy, so the track is specified from the leaf size and the fixing above it is checked at the site measure. Wide openings can take two leaves meeting in the middle, each on its own carriages, or a telescopic system where two leaves stack to one side.

Where it suits

Between a kitchen and a dining room, where the opening stays open most of the time and closes for cooking. Between a bedroom and a dressing room or en suite, where a hinged door would swing into the furniture. Across a study or a family room opening onto a living area. Anywhere the wall beside the opening is clear, so the leaf has somewhere to slide.

Finishes and handles

Concealed sliding doors are made in the same finishes as our interior doors: veneer press in walnut, oak, teak or ash, PU paint in any colour, or laminate. The handle is a flush pull recessed into the face, or an edge pull on the leading edge, so nothing catches when the leaf slides into its stop. A sliding door lock with a hook bolt can be fitted where privacy is needed.

How we work

From site measure to installation

Four steps, one point of contact, and nothing made until you approve the drawings.

  1. Site measure

We visit, measure the opening, check the wall build up and floor level, and talk through how the door should look and work.

  2. Drawings and samples

You receive shop drawings and physical finish samples. Nothing goes into production until you or your designer approve them.

  3. Made to order

Your door is factory produced to the approved drawings, with production updates as it moves through the build and a quality check before it leaves.

  4. Installed by our team

Our fitting team installs, adjusts and hands over the door, with one point of contact from the first visit to the last adjustment.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can a concealed track be added to a finished ceiling?

Where the ceiling cannot be opened, we use a timber pelmet in the door finish to hide the track. It gives the same clean look without ceiling works.

How long does a bespoke door take?

Lead time depends on the size, finish, hardware and how quickly drawings are approved. We confirm the programme in writing when you approve the drawings, and keep you updated during production.

How much wall space does a concealed sliding door need?

Clear wall beside the opening at least as wide as the leaf, so the door has somewhere to slide. A two leaf system needs clear wall on both sides. We check this at the site measure.

Is a concealed track sliding door quiet?

Yes. The leaf hangs from carriages running inside an aluminium track with soft close and soft open dampers, so it slides silently and slows before it reaches the end.
