60 minute fire rated doors

A 60 minute fire rated door set is tested to hold back fire for at least 60 minutes. We supply 60 minute fire rated wooden door sets in Dubai, tested to BS 476 Part 22 and supplied with the Dubai Civil Defence certificate and stamp, finished to match your interior.

Where 60 minute doors are used

A 60 minute rating is the most common requirement for apartment entrance doors, hotel rooms, corridors and service rooms in residential and commercial buildings. Your consultant or the approved drawings set the rating for each opening. We work from the door schedule and supply each set with its certificate.

What is included

The leaf, frame, intumescent seals, hinges, closer and ironmongery are supplied as one certified set and installed by our team. Vision panels in fire rated glass can be included where the certified build allows.

Where a 60 minute door is required in Dubai

Sixty minutes is the workhorse rating. In the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code the one hour rating covers most of the doors a residential or hospitality building needs: the entrance door to each apartment or hotel room where it opens onto a protected corridor, doors between a corridor and a lobby, doors to storage rooms, housekeeping and small service rooms, and the door from a villa garage or kitchen into the house where the consultant has asked for a rated door. The door schedule on the approved drawings is what decides it, opening by opening, and the Dubai Civil Defence inspector checks the installed door against that schedule.

How a 60 minute timber door set is built

The leaf is a solid fire core, usually a dense particleboard or mineral core around 44 to 54 mm thick, lipped on all four edges with hardwood and faced in the veneer, laminate or paint grade skin the interior calls for. The frame is a hardwood or engineered section with an intumescent strip let into the groove on the two long edges and the head, and a smoke seal brush or blade where smoke control is required. Under heat the intumescent strip expands to many times its thickness and closes the gap between leaf and frame. Hinges are steel, three or four per leaf depending on weight, and the closer is an overhead unit tested as part of the assembly. Every one of these parts is listed on the certificate; the set is only rated when it is installed with them.

Glazing and vision panels

A 60 minute leaf can carry a vision panel in fire rated glass where the certified build allows it, usually a narrow upright panel or a small square beside the lock edge, bedded in intumescent glazing tape and held with a hardwood bead. The maximum glazed area is set by the test evidence, not by preference, so we confirm the panel size against the certificate before drawing it.

Finishes

Because the rating lives in the core, the frame and the seals, the face can be almost anything: a walnut or oak veneer to match the other doors on the floor, a laminate in a hotel corridor, or a paint grade skin sprayed in the booth. Fire rated doors do not have to look like fire rated doors.

What we need to quote

The door schedule or a list of openings with sizes, the rating per opening, the finish, the hardware (lever, lock, closer, kick plates, vision panel) and whether smoke seals are specified. From that we price every set with its certificate and submit the shop drawings and the certificate for consultant approval before production.

How we work

From site measure to installation

Four steps, one point of contact, and nothing made until you approve the drawings.

  1. Site measure

We visit, measure the opening, check the wall build up and floor level, and talk through how the door should look and work.

  2. Drawings and samples

You receive shop drawings and physical finish samples. Nothing goes into production until you or your designer approve them.

  3. Made to order

Your door is factory produced to the approved drawings, with production updates as it moves through the build and a quality check before it leaves.

  4. Installed by our team

Our fitting team installs, adjusts and hands over the door, with one point of contact from the first visit to the last adjustment.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is a 60 minute fire door certified in Dubai?

Our 60 minute door sets are tested to BS 476 Part 22 and supplied with the Dubai Civil Defence certificate and stamp for the project.

Can the door have glass?

Yes, where the certified build allows, using fire rated glass in a tested vision panel.

Can you supply a full project schedule?

Yes. Send the door schedule and drawings and we will price every opening with its rating, size, finish and hardware.

Does an apartment entrance door in Dubai need to be fire rated?

In most multi storey residential buildings, yes. The apartment entrance door opens onto a protected corridor and is normally specified as a 60 minute set with a closer. The approved drawings and the door schedule confirm it for each building.

What thickness is a 60 minute fire door?

A 60 minute timber leaf is typically 44 to 54 mm thick, built on a solid fire core with hardwood lippings, in a frame with intumescent seals. The exact build follows the test evidence on the certificate.
